Overview:

Decades of neglect had taken their toll on the iconic bandstand at Queens Park, Castleford. Our task was to restore this historic structure to its former glory, creating a beautiful, functional space for the community to enjoy. Working alongside Wakefield Council and EQUANS, we undertook a comprehensive refurbishment project that tackled the roof, ceiling, stonework, and metalwork.

The Details

Restoring the bandstand posed several challenges:

  • Neglected Structure: Years of exposure had caused significant wear and tear to the roof, ceiling, and stonework.

  • Public Safety: With heavy public footfall in the park, safety was a top priority. Pedestrian management plans and access restrictions were implemented to ensure the safety of visitors during the project.

  • Specialist Restoration Techniques: Achieving an authentic restoration required precision and expertise, particularly with the stone repairs and decorative detailing.
